The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), founded in 1930 at Howard University in Washington D.C., serves as the umbrella organization for the seven historically African-American fraternities and sororities here at UW-Madison. The NPHC was organized to allow greater collaboration among members in order to more greatly influence social action and change in the African American community. NPHC's organizations were designed to foster a growth of brotherhood and sisterhood and to serve as conduits by which action plans could be formulated and coordinated. Each organization has a profound commitment to providing community service and helping to uplift the public welfare.
