Fraternity
meets, displaced brothers doing well
Last
evening, the 28 students displaced by the fire at SigEp met with
SigEp Alumni Board members and representatives from the Dean of
Students Office, University Health Services, the Red Cross, the
Madison Fire Department and the Greek Life Office.
At
this time, all displaced students have found temporary housing.
Emergency funds have been given to the students from the Dean of
Students Office (ODOS), the Red Cross has provided free debit cards
and most students have been able to purchase at least some new clothes
and other essentials. Professors have been flexible rescheduling
finals, and where this was not the case, a representative from the
ODOS volunteered to contact the professors directly. If any
displaced student has additional needs, they should contact the
Alumni Board or the Dean of Students Office directly.
The
Madison Fire Department also updated everyone on the fire and the
investigation (more on this later)
A
fence has been erected to ensure that no one enters the house.
Currently, only fire investigators and members of the police and
fire departments can enter the house. Cars parked behind the
house will be moved when debris has been cleared from the driveway.
No one at any time should enter the house.

May 13, 12:00 p.m.:
Today
is a tragic day for SigEp Wi-Beta. Last evening the SigEp
house at 237 Langdon Street caught fire and is being considered
a total loss. Thankfully all 28 brothers who were living at
the house got out safely. During the emergency response, three
Madison fire fighters suffered minor injuries and our thoughts go
out to them.
At
this time, we are working to find housing for displaced brothers
and to help them complete finals and the semester. The Dean
of Students Office, UW Greek Life Office, Red Cross and Madison
Fire Department have all responded wonderfully and we would like
to thank them for their support.
