GREEK COUNCIL OVERVIEW
The All Greek
Council organization provides the Interfraternity Council, the Panhellenic
Association, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek
Council with a structure for building unity and highlighting the
successes of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Greek Community.
The All Greek Council develops and implements programs to
reinforce Education, Scholarship, Citizenship and Leadership.
All Greek
Council is made up of 6 committees, 5 of which are described below.
The funding committee raises money for All Greek Council programming.
During the application process, applicants are placed into specific
committees based on their past experience and merits. The All Greek
Council is coordinated by the President, and holds its meetings
twice a month, usually on Sundays.
LEADERSHIP
COMMITTEE
The purpose
of the leadership committee is to design programs that will benefit
the Greek community in fostering future chapter leaders. They are
responsible for the Presidents Leadership Retreat. The purpose of
this retreat is to inform each new chapter president the rules and
expectations that the governing councils, university community,
and local authorities have for the fraternities and sororities.
ALL
GREEK AWARDS COMMITTEE
The All Greek
Awards is an annual recognition program that acknowledges chapter
and individual and excellence in the areas of academics, risk management,
recruitment, leadership, community service and Greek pride. Each
year, sororities and fraternities participate by submitting nominations
for individual recognition and by filling out their State of the
Chapter Reports. The All Greek Awards also recognizes chapters in
the Chapters of Excellence Program.
COMMUNITY
SERVICE COMMITTEE
The Community
Service’s main responsibility is organizing Project G.I.V.E. The
purpose of Project G.I.V.E. is to work together as a Greek community
to raise money and provide community outreach. All Greek Council
has designed it to allow Greek chapters to participate in a community
service project in the fall and a campus philanthropy in the spring.
Last fall, All Greek Council successfully conducted a food drive
for Second Harvest Food Pantry. The Community Service Committee
also plans the community service activity for Greek Week in the
spring. As a part of Greek Week 2006, All Greek Council took part
in Alex’s Lemonade Stand to raise money throughout the downtown
Madison area.
CHAPTERS
OF EXCELLENCE COMMITTEE
The Chapters
of Excellence committee is an assessment and recognition for the
UW-Greek community. The primary means of assessing the chapters
is through the state of the chapter reports, which is an evaluation
of a chapter’s programming throughout the calendar year. Using the
State of the Chapter reports, the Chapters of Excellence will be
assessing each chapter to see if it meets the standards set in four
categories: Leadership, Citizenship, Fellowship, and Scholarship.
All standards will be set so it will be obtainable for all the chapters
to achieve. The incentives and recognition for this is to have the
winners achievements recognized at teh All Greek Awards ceremony
in the Spring.
INTER
COUNCIL RELATIONS COMMITTEE
The Inter
Council Relations Committee strives to bring together the four Greek
Councils, which include the Interfraternity Council, the Panhellenic
Association, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek
Council at UW through educational programming and entertaining events.
One of the committee's highlights is creating the Greek 101
program, which was presented at the New Member Education Day.
