Greeks Unite to Create a Safer CommunityThe Langdon Street Neighborhood Watch program was created in the Fall of 2006 as a collaborative effort between the Madison Police Department and the UW-Madison Greek Community to make a difference in improving the safety of our community on weekend nights. Fraternity and Sorority members volunteer their time to take a highly visible role in proactively creating a safer community and promoting awareness. We are asking for organizations to volunteer approximately 4 hours on a Friday or Saturday night from the hours of 12am-3am. As few as 4 individuals may volunteer to take a night. Flashlights, LEDs, and reflective vests will be provided, courtesy of donations from Wal-Mart, Target, Rayovac, and the Madison Professional Police Officers Association. Volunteers will split up into groups of 4-5 and spend the night patrolling the Langdon Street area. It is a great opportunity to spend time with members of your organization while participating in a great cause to help our community! Past participants (below) can all tell you about their positive experiences. Volunteers are not asked to confront any behavior, look for parties, or put themselves in danger, and are simply encouraged to be a visible deterrent to violent and destructive acts and to call the police if they witness anything.
