GREEKS
RECOGNIZE OFFICER FIORE
MADISON –
University of Wisconsin-Madison fraternities and sororities congratulated
Former Langdon Street Neighborhood Officer, Tony Fiore on his promotion
to Sergeant by hosting a reception in his honor on Wednesday, February
20th. Officer Fiore has worked as the Langdon Street Neighborhood
Officer for the past two years and created the Langdon Street Neighborhood
Watch Program, which allows Greeks to collaborate with the Madison
Police Department to organize a schedule for student organizations
volunteer a few hours on the weekend nights to walk up and down
Langdon Street, creating a safer nighttime environment in the area.
With the help of LEDs flashlights, and reflective vests, the program
has been a great success and even won the Student Organization Office
Program of the Year Award in the spring of 2007.
"His leadership and dedication to Langdon Street and the Greek Community
will be sorely missed," says Alex Sheridan, a senior at UW and active
member in Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. "People credit the changing
climate of Langdon Street safety to the volunteers who gave up their
weekend evenings to patrol the neighborhood, but none of that would
have been possible if it wasn't for the work Officer Fiore did to
get the program started."
Not only has Officer Tony Fiore helped bridge the Madison Police
Department with the student body and Greeks on campus, but he also
worked hard to find funding, equipment, and support for the Langdon
Street Neighborhood Watch Program.
"Officer Fiore
did everything in his power to ensure that the neighborhood's needs
were met with the same enthusiasm put forth by all of Langdon Street
residents. Officer Fiore embodies the community policing philosophy
of the Madison Police Department," Sheridan says, "I wish him the
best of luck in his new position and hope he knows he'll always
be welcome on Langdon Street."
Aside from the safer environment that Officer Fiore has helped provide
for the UW campus and Greek Community, he has also worked closely
with Greeks about the importance of being proactive in their risk
management. He has provided numerous educational programs for chapters
about safety and has worked closely with chapter executive boards.
Because of Officer Fiore’s hard work and dedication, he was named
the 2006-2007 All Greek Awards Council’s Gold Medal Winner and was
the recipient of the Offices of the Dean of Student Partnership
Award in 2007. The reception was held on Wednesday, February 20th.
Greek Chapters and the Greek Governance Councils have pulled together
monetary donations to make a sizable donation to both the Langdon
Street Neighborhood Watch Program and to the Ronald McDonald House
of Madison in honor of Office Fiore per his request.
