| Dear Student:
Now that
you are enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison you have
the opportunity to explore, select and participate in a limitless
array of learning experiences. Each semester you will review several
thousand courses, sections and laboratory offerings and enroll in
a challenging academic program. You will eventually select and complete
major, or, as recent trends indicate, a combination of majors from
more than 140 academic possibilities. You may even change majors
once or several times, and still graduate in four years. You will
also have the opportunity to participate in world-class research,
take part in a wide assortment of public service activities, and
join and lead any number of over 600 student organizations. At the
UW-Madison, you may decide to participate in the Greek community.
The best fraternity or sorority at the UW-Madison can offer you
a sense of community, provide opportunities to become involved in
philanthropy, cultivate leadership skills, and promote scholarship
and reward intellectual achievement. Last year approximately 600
freshmen joined the Greek community and more than 2400 undergraduates
were members of the Greek community. If you are interested in joining
a fraternity or sorority, it is my hope that this Web site will
help you make an informed decision.
I also encourage
you to continuously explore and actively participate in a wide assortment
of learning opportunities at the UW-Madison. I challenge you to
set high expectations for your personal and academic growth. Before
you make final decisions on courses, research opportunities, student
organizations and membership in fraternities and sororities, I also
encourage you to consult with other students, faculty, staff and
alumni. Each opportunity that you pursue will influence new friendships
and social networks, understandings of different cultures and perspectives,
and your engagement in civic life.
Sincerely,
John D. Wiley
