Sigma Chi is located at 221
Langdon St , Madison , WI 53703 . We have been on the UW campus
since 1885 and at our current Langdon Street location since the
1960’s. Our current house is a mere six years old and is one of
the nicest houses on campus. With over 75 members, we are steadily
growing and becoming one of the biggest chapters on campus, yet
we are still always looking for quality new members.
Sigma Chi is most well known for our
annual week-long philanthropy event “Derby Days” in which each sorority
competes in a variety of contests ranging from tug-o-war to giant
twister to karaoke. Throughout the course of the week we raise thousands
of dollars to be put toward The Children’s Miracle Network as well
as the Kevin Cleary Foundation (a Wisconsin Sigma Chi alumni who
was killed in Tower One on September 11 th , 2001 ).
Academics are also a very
crucial portion of our mission. We hold each of our members to academic
standards and expect that everyone performs to the best of his ability.
With this, however, comes large rewards. We have a very strong alumni
base who offer thousands of dollars in scholarships each year for
overall achievement, most improved, highest new member GPA, and
others. These awards serve as a strong motivator for many of our
members.
Last, but certainly not least,
we are a social fraternity. We have mastered the art of working
hard and playing hard. You will often times see groups of 15 to
20 guys from our house out on the town together on a Friday night
(or even a Tuesday every now and then). However, the best example
of this social aspect is on a cool Saturday morning in October when
the front porch of 221 Langdon is filled with hundreds of Badger
football fans clad in red and awaiting the kickoff of yet another
Badger victory.
