In 2004, the first ever Multicultural Greek Council was founded at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. With the rise in interest of Multicultural Greek system, there was a need of a Council that would serve the needs of these interest groups.

The purpose of the Multicultural Greek Council shall be to unite Greek lettered organizations (which include chapters, colonies, and interest groups) who are not members of Interfraternity Council (IFC), Pan-Hellenic Council (PHC), or the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
