MIND

M.I.N.D. (Men Initiating New Dreams) became interested in Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity because we found that the Greek system at the University of Wisconsin-Madison needed some diversity. Currently there are no Latino-based fraternities and we hope to be the first. Having such a low rate of Latino students on campus, we felt it necessary that our group establish, Sigma Lambda Beta, which in turn might encourage others to do the same.

Fraternities on campus have a misconception about them that entails negativity. If we become part of Sigma Lambda Beta, we hope to erase all preconceived notions and stand out for positive reasons. The lack of diversity on campus demands the need for cultural awareness. Our group understands that ignorance can only be overcome by knowledge. Having a group diverse in so many levels gives us the essential capabilities to promote the faculties that Sigma Lambda Beta stands for.

M.I.N.D. seeks the support of brotherhood; a major component of Sigma Lambda Beta. As such a diverse group, we can work together to bring awareness here on campus and the surrounding community, but also take the same to our hometowns; whether it is right around the corner or as far as Los Angeles. M.I.N.D. understands that having such a great system for brotherhood, we become a support system for one another to succeed. We realize that Sigma Lambda Beta focuses on the importance of academics. M.I.N.D. understands the academics are important but also being able to balance academics and community outreach. It is a major goal of M.I.N.D. to find that perfect balance and ensure that we not only be recognized for community outreach but also maintaining high grade point averages.
