Delta Gamma
Anchor Splash is Delta Gamma’s annual philanthropy event. Sororities and fraternities team up and compete in a huge swim competition. The events range from zany tube races to 100-meter backstroke relays. The events conclude with the popular “Mr. Anchor Splash” competition where the men flaunt their performing skills. The proceeds for Anchor Splash go to Service for Sight, which benefits people affected by blindness. Anchor Splash began in 1966 and it is now a huge Delta Gamma fundraiser for chapters across the nation.
Kappa Kappa Gamma & Pi Beta Phi
Hoops for Hope is a 3 on 3 basketball tournament held on the lake at James Madison Park. All proceeds are donated to the UW Children's Cancer Research Fund. The tournament is open to both guys and girls, and games are played double-elimination style, so everyone gets a lot of court time! Regardless of whether you win or lose however, everyone has a great day filled with basketball, music, yummy food from State Street Brats, and awesome raffle prizes!
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Epsilon Phi’s national philanthropy is the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. Elizabeth Glaser went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was a member of AEPhi. She contracted the HIV/AIDS virus through a blood transfusion and unknowingly passed it on to her two children. Our sorority, along with other chapters nationally, help to raise money for the Pediatric Aids Foundation. We hold an annual Powder Puff Football game that involves the entire Greek community and helps to raise money for a spectacular cause. Sororities compete against each other in a flag football competition and members of the Wisconsin football team take on the role of sorority coaches. Our philanthropy takes place in the spring and everyone who participates has a great time.
Sigma Delta Tau
The sisters of Sigma Delta Tau from Madison, WI will be sponsoring their largest community service event in April. SDT is supporting their national philanthropy to prevent child abuse in America . The fundraiser takes place at the Kollege Klub, where individuals can buy cups upon their arrival. In addition, people can purchase raffle tickets for large prizes, such as television sets, DVD players, and even free trips to Chicago . All the prizes were donated, and as a result all of the proceeds will benefit the children from this organization.
Delta Delta Delta
During the 1990s, Delta Delta Delta formed a partnership with St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital. Since 2002, Tri Delta has raised over 1.3
million dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Our event benefitting
St. Jude is called Cakes for Kids. At our anual pancake breakfast
chapter members serve up all-you-can-eat pancakes to students, faculty,
alumni and community members . There is a pancake eating contest with
prizes for the winners. Local bands also come to play at this exciting
event.
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Alpha Theta participates in two signature philanthropy events over the course of the year; the money raised by the events goes to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA provides legal representation to children in the foster care program to ensure that their best interests are looked after in the courts. In May, Theta and Kappa Sigma will host a grill off where participants will grill various types of food and be critiqued on best dish, best presentation, etc. All members of the community are invited to attend and vote for their favorite dishes. In September, Theta hosts its annual soccer tournament called "Kicks for CASA." Teams from all over campus enter the tournament and play soccer games.
Alpha Phi
For more than 50 years, Alpha Phi has focused on heart disease and cardiac care as its philanthropic priority. The Alpha Phi Foundation, our benefactor, helps to fund research and educational programs that support cardiac health. As a result of these efforts, health care professionals and women everywhere are learning more about the causes, prevention and treatment of heart disease – the number one killer of women in North America. Alpha Phi has an annual Kiss Off. Prospective contestants purchase raffle tickets for the chance to literally kiss a scooter. At the end of the event, the last contestant still kissing will be the winner of a brand new scooter. Other prizes, such as merchandise and gift certificates from local businesses will be raffled off. All proceeds from this event go directly to the Alpha Phi Foundation.
Gamma Phi Beta
Our February Philanthropy, "Hugs, Slaps, and Kisses," supports the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation. We sell hugs, slaps or kisses for two dollars. The
the
person the message is addressed to receives candy along with a message.
Once we have
tallied the hugs, slaps, kisses forms, the sorority who raised the most
money that delivers the guys' hugs, slaps, and kisses in person, and the
fraternity that raised the most money that delivers to girls. For our
fall philanthropy, "Kickin' It Club Style for Kids," we rent out Madison
Avenue and raise money through admission tickets for the Lions Camp. Lions
Camp is a camp for children with disabilities. We have a dance off competition
and assorted prizes from local businesses. Each year the Dance Team makes
an appearance as well.
Chi
Omega
Through
the course of the academic year Chi Omega supports three philanthropies.
In
the fall a five-on-five dodge-ball tournament called “Dodge for Wishes”.
All students are invited to participate in the competition. The proceeds
from this event are donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Since the premier
of Vince Vaughn’s movie Dodgeball , the sport has become popularized
and made this event extremely entertaining.
Chi
Omega’s spring philanthropy is called “A Celebration for Shona”, and is
in memory of a former Nu chapter member. The women spend a day at the
UW Children’s Hospital brightening the lives of their patients, their
families, and the staff.
Chi
O Reads Aloud is a year long philanthropy run by Chi Omega. Each week
a group of women visit the Glendale
Elementary
School to read and interact with the
children. At the end of the year Chi Omega gladly donates books to the
children as a gesture of their enjoyment in participating as well as in
hopes the children’s lives were enriched through the time spent.
Alpha Chi Omega
Our annual fall philanthropy, Mr. Alpha Chi, raises money for our cause, Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS.) The event, held in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union, is a male beauty pageant in which fraternity men compete in eveningwear, talent and an interview. The ladies of Alpha Chi Omega as well as members of other sororities coach the contestants in all areas of competition, and each sorority has one judge on the panel. By the end of the evening, one man is crowned Mr. Alpha Chi Omega, and he earns a spot on our composite as well as dinner at the house each month. Mr. Alpha Chi is one of the most successful philanthropies on campus and contributes greatly to DAIS annually.
