What is Recruitment?
Recruitment is a mutual selection process that introduces potential members to the sorority community and its many aspects. Recruitment takes place the first two weeks of the fall and spring semesters. It offers you an opportunity to meet chapter members and peers while learning what each sorority has to offer. It is a relaxed setting for the potential member to ask whatever questions the potential member feels pertinent, such as finance, scholarship, activities, housing, and time commitment. Most important, the potential member should look for a chapter where she feels comfortable with the women.
Throughout the process, those recruiting will receive help along the way from a Recruitment Counselor. They will answer any questions you may have and inform you about each step in the recruitment process.
Which Chapter is Right For Me?
The only way to know what chapter(s) you feel truly welcome at is to visit as many as possible; the recruitment process allows you to meet the women from every chapter and tour chapter facilities. Take advantage of the recruitment period to really get to know the members and ask lots of questions. Keep in mind recruitment is a mutual selection process; you're choosing a chapter as much as a chapter is choosing you. Ultimately, the right chapter is the organization where you feel comfortable within a group of friends who are going to both challenge and support you.
What Happens After Recruitment is Over?
Once recruitment is over, you may have the choice to pledge the chapter you received a “bid” from. A bid is an invitation to join the sorority as a new member. Pledging is a period where you will learn about the sorority’s history and rituals.
In addition, each person going through recruitment is treated as an individual, kept informed about the recruitment process, and treated with the utmost respect. This makes certain that each person has a positive, safe and enriching recruitment and new member experience. Participating in the recruitment process does not require a person to join a chapter; but enables them to explore and learn about the campus community.
