General Facts about Chi Omega and Nu Chapter
Nu chapter was founded in 1902, our house was built in 1905 and Chi Omega was founded in 1895 . Chi Omega turns 115 on April 5th, 2010.
Our colors are Cardinal and Straw.
Our symbols include the skull and crossbones and the owl. Our flower is a white carnation.
Our six pillars were established to preserve and enhance the value of each member. The six pillars are friendship, high standards of personnel, sincere learning and creditable scholarship, participation in campus activities, career and personal development, and community service.
Make-a-Wish Foundation became Chi Omega’s national philanthropy in 2002 and since then Chi Omega has become the largest contributor to Make-a-Wish. Nu Chapter’s annual event for this philanthropy is Walk-It-Out For Wishes.
Other Nu Chapter philanthropies include Celebration for Shona at the American Family Children’s Hospital and Chi Omega Reads Aloud at Glenview Elementary. Chi O Reads Aloud is the only weekly philanthropy within the Greek System.
Chi Omega is the largest member of the National Panhellenic Council and as of this year we are the largest women’s organization in the country surpassing Girl Scouts.
Chi Omega has 171 chapters an d over 300,000 initiated members
Unlike most sorority houses on campus that were converted from old mansions, Chi Omega Nu was built specifically for us. Throughout the house there are built-in Chi O mega symbols including the most noticeable one: an owl-shaped window.
Singer/Songwriter Toby Lightman was a member of Nu Chapter here at the University of Wisconsin .
Other famous Chi Omega sisters include To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee, award winning actress Lucy L iu , and NASA Astronaut Susan Helms who was the first woman to live in the International Space Station
Each new member of Chi Omega is welcomed into one of the largest sisterhoods in the nation with excitement and enthusiasm. We hope to keep our legacy going strong for 100 more years!
