Sororities at UW-Madison
help potential members to meet members of active chapters, make
new friends and decide on a chapter through an organized process
called “Recruitment.” Recruitment is a process that introduces potential
members to the Greek community and the many aspects that help to
build the four pillars of Greek life: scholarship, citizenship,
leadership and friendship. It offers a potential new member an opportunity
to meet chapter members and peers, while learning what each sorority
has to offer. Participating in the recruitment process does not
require a person anyone join a chapter, but enables them to explore
and learn about the campus community.
Academically,
the sorority chapters maintain a GPA over 3.0. Scholarship and academic
achievement are priorities for all sorority members. Sorority women
also actively volunteer in the local community as well as participate
in a variety of philanthropy projects. Each
chapter has its own local and national philanthropy. Members
of the Greek community also get involved by participating in the
philanthropies of other chapters. The Greek system hosts a variety
of campus-wide events, such as Humorology and Greek Week. These
activities form the friendship and sisterhood that are the foundation
of each chapter.
NOTE:
Of the twenty sororities listed, four (Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta
Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta) are a part of the
National Pan-Hellenic Council and four (Alpha Pi Omega, Kappa Delta
Chi, Lambda Theta Alpha, and Sigma Lambda Gamma) are a part of the
Multicultural Greek Council. The remaining twelve sororities
function under the Panhellenic Association.
