At Kappa Alpha Theta,
we pride ourselves on our close friendship, leadership, scholarship,
and service to others. Together we form a sisterhood of caring,
supportive, talented, bright, down-to-earth, and fun-loving women.
Whether we are studying at the library, at a themed social, decked
out in red and white for the football game, at a philanthropy event
or at our annual formal, Thetas experience sisterhood in an exceptional
way. We expect each member to achieve high scholarship and to develop
to the fullest of her intellectual, cultural, and social potential.
We believe that Theta is for a lifetime, and use our traditions
and ritual to achieve our personal, academic, and social best.
In addition to our involvement
in many outside activities like honor societies, Dance Elite, and
Students Against Cancer, Thetas are very active in campus as well
as Greek life. We always look forward to the competitions of Greek
Week, as well as celebrating our Wisconsin pride on Homecoming.
Theta has also been extremely successful in Humorology in recent
years, placing second in 2006.
Kappa Alpha Theta nationally
chose CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, as the fraternity’s
official philanthropy in 1989. CASA volunteers are made up of members
of the over 930 communities that house a CASA program. These volunteers
are specially trained to evaluate the living situation of a child
in the foster care system. Advocates then provide judges with valuable
information as to what is best in the child’s best interest, to
ensure no child “slips through the cracks” and that all children
facing difficult situations are placed in proper, beneficial homes.
Since 1989 the Kappa Alpha Theta foundation has donated over $769,000
to National CASA.
The Thetas hold two Philanthropy events a year to raise money for
both the Dane County CASA program and Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation:
Semi-Annual Designer Denim Sale
Once a semester we hold a designer apparel sale at our house, carrying
brands such as Citizens of Humanity, Seven for All Mankind, Juicy,
Lacoste, Polo, Blue Cult, and many more. The merchandise comes from
an accredited wholesale distributor, who then contributes a percentage
of the proceeds to CASA. This has been one of our most successful
and fun philanthropies, and one which not only our members, but
the entire Greek community look forward to twice a year.
Rock the CASA
In fall of 2007 we are holding their first annual Rock the CASA!
At this event several campus bands will perform with all proceeds
from ticket and t-shirt sales benefiting the Dane County CASA program.
For more information on CASA please visit www.nationalcasa.org!
Other Service Activities
Theta women are also very active in other campus and Madison area
service events.
Through the UW Greek system we participate in the annual Trick or
Treat with the Greeks where underprivileged Madison area children
“trick-or-treat” up and down Langdon street for an afternoon. We
also participate in the UW Panhellenic Project Dream Dress where
the girls donate old formal dresses to high school girls in the
area.
Every year we compete in Humorology, a variety show written, directed,
produced and performed by members of the UW Madison campus. It is
the largest non-profit student service organization at Wisconsin
and all proceeds benefit the Chris Farley Foundation and Camp Heartland.
For more information on “Humo” please visit www.uwhumorology.com.
Each month we make an effort to have an outside service opportunity
available to our sisters. Psi Theta’s have dedicated their time
at places like, local hostels, Unicef, Relay for Life, the Christopher
Banks MS walk, the Dane County Humane Society and Youngblood.
